Fostering regional collaboration in data protection

The "East African Knowledge Exchange on Data Protection," is a series of events that will enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing among Data Protection Offices/Authorities of East African governments.

The initiative is backed by key regional actors including the Africa Union Commission, the Smart Africa Secretariat, the East African Community ICT Secretariat and the East Africa Communications Organisation.

In response to the evolving landscape of data protection in East Africa, the AU-EU D4D Hub project, in collaboration with various stakeholders, is organizing a series of activities designed to support the implementation of national data protection laws and frameworks. This effort includes specialized trainings, study visits, and knowledge-sharing products.

Through engagements with data protection authorities across East Africa, this first event in a series of "East African Knowledge Exchange on Data Protection" events seeks to provide a forum to share experiences regarding the the operationalization journeys of the authorities, share lessons learned, as well as provide resource documents and contacts. Improved coordination between national and regional levels, to avoid duplication of resources and support programmes is in order.

This is an invite-only event.

Data Protectors Podcast

In light of the efforts to strengthen data protection in East Africa, the AU-EU D4D Hub Project has developed a podcast in Kenya aimed at Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to enhance their capacity and promote compliance.

It brings together Kenyan and European experts to explore different aspects of data protection compliance, share lessons learned, and identify opportunities created with the enactment of Kenya's Data Protection Act and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
